Scanner Information
What are the unique features and benefits of the Medit i500 scanner?
The Medit i500 has several unique features as an intraoral scanner and offers various benefits to users:
- The i500 uses triangulation technology to acquire 3D images. As such, unlike confocal microscopy that are used by most intraoral scanners, the i500 does not have any other moving parts except for the fan.
- The intelligent scan-detecting algorithm coupled with two high-speed cameras enables the i500 to acquire 3D images quickly and efficiently.
- The small tip allows the user to maneuver the scanner in a way minimizing patient's discomfort.
- Color texture: The user can inspect scanned data in detail by using the texture mode.
- The Medit Scan for Clinics program, an image acquisition program, seamlessly works with Medit Link so that the collaboration between clinic and lab or internal staffs can be improved.
How accurate is the Medit i500?
* Trueness: the closeness between the average of several measurements of the same sample and the reference value
** Precision: the closeness between independent test values
- Accuracy test in vitro was conducted by Yonsei University College of Dentistry according to the methods in "Accuracy comparison analysis on scan data of single tooth, quadrant, and full arch between two types of intraoral scanner, i500 and Trios 3" by Ji-Man Park, 19 December 2018.
- Accuracy test in vivo was conducted by Medit.
What is the speed of the Medit i500?
It is determined by the difficulty of the case as well as the user's experience performing the scan. However, even inexperienced users can easily complete the scan within the average scan time listed below.
- Full arch: 1 min/arch
- Post-processing time: 1 ~ 2 min/arch
How steep is the learning curve to use the i500?
As with any technology, intraoral scanning requires some practice in order to comfortably utilize it to suit the user's needs. The i500, however, is designed to enable the user to get used to the scanner and the Medit Scan for Clinics software relatively quickly. After just a couple of trial runs, the user can get used to the handpiece and software usage. Especially, if the user has experienced with other intraoral scanners, the minimal adjustment would be enough for the first scan with the i500.
What is the Medit i500 scanner's warranty period?
Medit warrants the i500 scanner and accessories contained in the original packaging for one (1) year from the date of installation by the first end-user purchaser against defects in materials and workmanship when used normally in accordance with Medit's published guidelines.
Can I use the i500 on multiple computers?
There is no limit to the number of computers that you can connect the i500 with. As long as the Medit Link application is installed on a computer, you can log in to the Medit Link application and use the i500 scanner.
Does the i500 support USB 2.0 connections?
The i500 system does not support a USB 2.0 connection. A USB 3.0 cable should be used to connect it to a USB 3.0 port.
What if I fail to turn off the i500 scanner?
The i500 has a sleep mode feature that turns off the projector after 30 seconds of inactivity to preserve the lamp's lifespan.
Scan Target
Is the Medit i500 scanner suitable for orthodontics or clear aligners?
Yes, the i500 scanner's scan data can be exported using the Export feature for orthodontics and clear aligners. However, for clear aligners, you must check with your clear aligner provider to see if they can work with your data.
Can I use the i500 for implant cases?
Yes, the i500 can be used to scan implants. You may even get better results with the intraoral scanner as it does not add pressure on the gingival areas as opposed to traditional impressions.
Can I use the Medit i500 for kids or patients under the age of 18?
Yes, since the scanner tip of the i500 is one of the smallest on the market when scanning a patient whose mouth is relatively small, the i500 can minimize the discomfort caused by intra-oral scanning.
Can I use the Medit i500 for veterinary dentistry?
The image acquisition software, Medit Scan for Clinics, is optimized for scanning a human case, however, as long as the scan area of an animal's mouth isn't too big to affect the accuracy of the scan result, the i500 should also be able to create scan data. While the Medit i500 is intended to use on human patients, the decision to use it for veterinary dentistry should be left with the decision of the veterinarian.
Is using the white light option advantageous for data acquisition in the area where the patient's intraoral fluid is located?
Our scanners' structured light performance has improved, allowing for continuous scan data acquisition without the need to switch to a white light source. Nonetheless, the most recent Medit Scan for Clinics program allows users to select white light based on their preferences.
Is scanning powder required for the i500 scanner?
Most cases, such as natural teeth or most metal restorations, do not necessitate the use of scanning powder with the i500.
