Open Dental Integration

Overview

Open Dental Integration is an app that connects Open Dental with Medit Link.

With this app, you can import patient information registered in Open Dental into Medit Link and create cases.

Patient information transferred to Medit Link

• Name
• Gender
• Date of birth
• Patient ID using Open Dental PatNum

Prerequisites

• Open Dental Software
• Medit Link Software
• Open Dental Integration, installed through Medit Link App Box

Installation

Installation consists of two steps.

Install the Open Dental Integration app

Configure Open Dental

Install Open Dental Integration App

1. Log in to Medit Link and go to App Box.

2. Find the Open Dental Integration app and click Install.

3. Do not turn off your PC until installation is complete. Installation may take several minutes.

4. After installation is complete, click OK to finish.

Configure Open Dental

The configuration method differs depending on your Open Dental version.

First, check your version from the top menu: Help → About.

Open Dental versions earlier than v22.1

1. From the top menu, go to Setup → Program Links, then click Add.

2. Enable the Enabled checkbox.

3. Check the Path of file to open.

• Default path:

C:\Program Files\Medit\Medit Link\Medit Link\Medit_Link.exe

4. Enter the following text exactly in Optional command line arguments.

5. Configure the button.

• In Add a button to these toolbars, select where to add the button.
• In Text on button, enter Medit Link.
• Optional: You can add a button image. The image can be downloaded from the bottom of the document or from the attachment.

6. Click OK to save the settings.

Open Dental v22.1 or later

Starting from v22.1, Medit Link is supported by default in Open Dental and can be selected directly from the list.

1. From the top menu, go to Setup → Program Links.

2. Find and select Medit Link from www.meditlink.com from the list.

3. Enable the Enabled checkbox.

4. Check the Path of file to open.

• Default path:

C:\Program Files\Medit\Medit Link\Medit Link\Medit_Link.exe

5. Check the value of Optional command line arguments.

6. Configure the button.

• In Add a button to these toolbars, select the button location.
• In Text on button, enter Medit Link.
• Optional: You can add a button image. Recommended size: 22 x 22 pixels.

7. Click Save to complete the configuration.

Workflow

1. Select a patient in Open Dental.

2. Click the Medit Link button on the toolbar.

3. Medit Link runs automatically, and the selected patient information is transferred to Medit Link.

4. A patient case is created.

• If the patient does not exist in Medit Link, the patient is automatically registered as a new patient.
• If the patient already exists, the case is linked to the existing patient.

5. Proceed with scanning in the created case.

Partner Selection (Optional)

Setting a PartnerID creates cases with the designated partner assigned when creating cases in Medit Link through Open Dental Integration.

To assign a partner, add PartnerID to Optional command line arguments in Open Dental as shown below. Replacing xxxxx with the PartnerID of your choice.
